Acquired another Micro 4/3s lens…

I just aquired a second lens for my Panasonic G1, the 45-200mm (90-400mm 35mm equivalent) and so far am very pleased. I plan to write a review for this blog in the coming weeks. I might have a better chance to test it in Quito, Ecuador on my way to the Galapagos next week.

Since Christmas, I have been using a Panasonic G1 Micro 4/3′s camera with its kit 14-45mm (28-90mm 35mm equivalent) lens for street photography and as a general walk-about camera. It weighs very little, it’s extremely compact, and the image quality is very high. To boot, it doesn’t cost that much, so if somethign were to happen to it (I use it on the street…), I wouldn’t be out of my “main” camera.

In any event, stay tuned. Oh, and some images from a recent trip to Washington, D.C. should be up in a few days.

Revisiting Grinnell & A Panning Blur

Last week I visited Grinnell College for the first time since December 2006, when I photographed a wedding just a few miles north of town.  A Portrait of Grinnell: The Architecture and Landscape of Grinnell College officially sold out this winter, and on the top of the agenda was to figure out what kind of demand there was for a reprint.  As it turns out, the demand is pretty strong.

The publishing company I used for the short-run of 1,000 books is no longer offering printing services, so I may go straight to the printer in Hong Kong.  This time, I’m thinking of making 2,000 copies.  Also, I’m planning to update the book slightly with a few new photos, but also to remove a couple that no longer up to my standards.  This fall I’ll make another trip out to Grinnell for a long-weekend of photography.

After several hours at Saints Rest Coffee House, I decided to give myself a tour of campus and all of its changes.  While I made a few visual “notes” (photos that are more ideas than they are good photographs), I did make a panning blur of South Campus that I was surprised to have come out so well–usually, I only make blurs of natural forms, and I wasn’t sure how it would work out with the straight lines of man-made structures.
