Calin Ilea diptych

Calin Ilea diptych - 3 October 2008, just after participating in the Missouri Photo Workshop in St. James, Mo., left, and 1 October 2010, on the second-to-last day of co-coordinating the Missouri Photo Workshop in Macon, Mo., right.

Today, a Romanian Fulbright student at the University of Missouri School of Journalism will defend his project to his committee to earn his M.A. in journalism.  When I met Calin Ilea two years, ago, I had no clue our friendship would change the way I approach photography.  He’s headed home on Thursday, but I can’t be in Missouri today to celebrate the (likely) completion of his project with him.  Are rain checks good in Romania, Calin?

Jakob Berr pores over Valerie Mosley's photos for her story for the 62nd annual Missouri Photo Workshop

Jakob Berr pores over Valerie Mosley's photos for her story, "Doing the Right Thing," for the 62nd annual Missouri Photo Workshop at the Comfort Inn in Macon, Mo. | Leica M8 and 50mm Summicron f/2 lens | Expsed 1/45 sec. @ f/2.8, ISO 640

On September 11, 2010, I left Durham, North Carolina to get to Racine, Wisconsin by way of Chillicothe, Ohio. Last Sunday I departed Racine for Columbia, Missouri, by way of St. Louis.  Since then I’ve lost a pillow (it will be returned), been slimed by a Silver carp, photographed a levitating Kim Komenich at the 62nd annual Missouri Photo Workshop in Macon, Missouri, and played tourist at my Alma mater.  My odometer cracked 27,000…not so happy about that, and I’ve also had my share of meals on the road.  Things will slow down soon, but not yet…

mpw.61 photos from behind the scenes are up!

At long last (OK, a couple of weeks later), I’ve posted online my photos of the directors, faculty, participants, and crew of the 61st Missouri Photo Workshop held in Festus & Crystal City, Mo. this past September-October.  The galleries can be found on my Zenfolio site here: http://davidkennedy.zenfolio.com/mpw61.

Here, as a teaser of what can be found, is the gallery entitled “Work:”

After a long week in Festus and Crystal City, Mo. for the 61st Missouri Photo Workshop, I am finally back in Columbia.  It was an amazing week and, Val Mosley and I produced 352 A3-sized prints of the participants’ work.  Wow.

Now it’s time to play catch-up with all of the work I’ve had piling up back at school.
